What exactly is the PTI?
It is a periodical technical inspection that all the vehicles in our country have to pass from time to time. Its main purpose is to ensure that everyone who drives adheres to certain basic safety and environmental standards.
Our Vehicle Inspection centres (SYC Applus+ itv) offer experience and a wide range of facilities to all citizens and provide the support required to guarantee your safety and the safety of all road users by certifying that vehicles are in optimum roadworthiness condition to drive and that they are exempt from any defects that would lead to any danger while driving or to the environment.
Passing the PTI is therefore a life insurance policy for everyone who uses public highways and roads.
This service is carried out following the patterns stablished in the Manual de Inspección Técnica de Vehículos del Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad.
The 10 steps of the PTI
Passing the PTI is a simple process… you decide when to do it and we take charge of how to do it.
The complete procedure is summarised in 10 simple steps.
- PRE-ARRANGED APPOINTMENT
Now, it is much easier to request an appointment using this website. If you prefer, you can also phone our Customer Services Department on 902 309 000.
- INSPECTION REQUEST
Simply, hand over all the necessary documentation when you arrive at the Technical Inspection Centre on the date and the time previously arranged..
- CONTAMINATING EMISSIONS
During the inspection process we measure and check the quantities emitted and noise levels to make sure they do not exceed any legal limits.
- EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR
Functioning of indicators, seatbelts, windscreen wipers, rear-view mirrors… we check that everything is in working order both inside and outside the vehicle.
- LIGHTS AND SIGNALLING
We make sure that your vehicle is visible and capable of lighting up the roads where there is poor visibility.
Using the suspension tester we check the condition, effectiveness and the balance of the suspension system, making sure that it does its job by reducing car body vibrations and minimising the impact on the wheels.
- BRAKES AND STEERING
The braking system is one of the most important safety systems in a vehicle. Using a brake-tester, we make sure that it is in a perfect condition to use.
- INSPECTION PIT
Tyres, axles, exhaust, transmission… from the Inspection pit, we can guarantee the condition of all the visible parts underneath the vehicle.
- IDENTIFICATION OF ANY LOOSE COMPONENTS
While stationary we will simulate the movements of a moving vehicle, which allows us to check the level of wear in systems such as the suspension, steering and braking.
At the end of the inspection, we will give you an inspection report which highlights any problems that have to be resolved and indicating whether or not the vehicle needs to repeat the technical inspection.
If no problems have arisen during the Inspection, we will give you the PTI sticker.
